What should I expect from the hiring process at Qminers?
Once you submit your application, you’ll usually hear from me or a colleague in HR support within a few days. If you move to the next round you’ll always know in good time, just as you will if we won’t be meeting again. We don’t leave anyone hanging unnecessarily. After the screening call comes a technical screening, a take-home task, and finally a half-day interview with the team lead and the key colleagues you’d be working with.
From the outside, the process can look pretty complicated.
Looks like a lot, doesn’t it? But it isn’t so bad. Every step has a good reason and leads to what we and the candidate both want: finding the right person for a role where they can make the most of their potential.
Can I do an internship with you?
We don’t offer the classic few-week internships, and we have good reasons for that too. An intern would have to work on mock data and, in those few weeks, would barely reach what we actually do. We do offer part-time arrangements, though, and we’re very flexible about it. Several people here study alongside their work. When someone wants to find their way to us, they do. And they needn’t worry about lacking experience: we’ll teach them everything they need.
Can I apply for more than one position, or to different teams?
Absolutely. We look at each candidate’s profile as a whole and can often judge well which team would suit them best. You can apply for any open position that interests you, and the application has space to note specific preferences. We’ll consider you for other roles as well.
Any tips on how to prepare for the interview? And what happens once a candidate gets through it?
It definitely helps to go through the materials here on the site. You’ll find both general guidance for interviews with the individual teams and, for example, the specialist reading our team leads would recommend. With students, it counts as a strong endorsement when we see good grades, participation in international competitions, or organizing math or programming seminars or hackathons. We also want every serious candidate to be driven by the ambition to achieve something. For the process itself, it helps to have your hands a little free: once you clear the entry rounds, a take-home task follows, and it’s ideal if you can start on it right away. After that everything moves fast, within a matter of weeks. Once you complete the process successfully, you’ll receive an offer and we’ll start discussing a start date. If you’re still studying, we can, for instance, agree to delay your start until after your final exams.
Can I reapply if I’ve applied before?
Yes! Some of our valued colleagues were hired only on the second attempt. But if you reapply, give some thought to whether anything was missing from your CV last time: projects, experience, results from school or practice. As a rule, it makes sense to try again after about a year, once you’ve had time to pick up new skills.
People say there’s a lot of hard graft at Qminers.
That’s true. But only within working hours! We don’t want people taking work home; we respect their privacy and personal lives. The pace is fast, but it makes sense and it produces results quickly. No drawn-out corporate processes. Even our CEO, Petr, works directly with the teams, puts in the same effort as everyone else, and there’s never a case where leadership doesn’t know what’s being worked on.
Do you hire people from abroad?
Yes, international candidates take part in our hiring process. We keep all documentation and task management in English.
